What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device to make it work, to remember your settings, and to understand how the site is used. Similar technologies such as local storage, pixels, and tags work in comparable ways. Cookies may be set by Plantgeh (“first-party”) or by other companies whose services appear on the site (“third-party”).
How Plantgeh uses cookies
Plantgeh uses cookies for the following purposes:
Essential cookies
These are needed for the site to work—for example, to keep the site secure, balance load, protect forms from automated abuse, and remember your cookie choices. The site cannot function properly without them, so they do not require consent.
Preference storage
Your display choices, such as light or dark mode, are kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. The same applies to small interface choices, such as closing the ad bar at the bottom of the screen for the rest of your visit, or dismissing a notice so it does not reappear on every page. This information stays on your device, is not sent to Plantgeh’s servers, and you can clear it at any time through your browser.
Analytics
Plantgeh measures how the site is used—such as which pages are popular—so the content can be improved. This measurement is Plantgeh’s own: the figures stay on Plantgeh’s systems, are not shared with third parties, are not used for advertising, and are not used to follow you to other websites. The overall visitor statistics are collected without cookies and are aggregated. There are two exceptions. A short-lived first-party cookie (about ten minutes) may carry a pending event across a page redirect so it is not lost. The counter that records how many people have read each page keeps a brief note in your browser’s local storage, plus a fingerprint of your connection on the server for 24 hours, so that refreshing a page does not count you twice. Neither identifies you, and no record is kept of which pages any individual has read. If Plantgeh ever adopts an analytics method that tracks individuals or uses cookies for profiling, it will be treated as non-essential and your consent will be requested first.
Advertising cookies
These are set by third-party advertising partners, including Google, to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure how ads perform. They may build a profile of your interests across websites. They are used only with your consent where the law requires it.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third parties, such as advertising partners. These companies set cookies under their own privacy and cookie policies, and Plantgeh does not control them. You can learn more about your advertising choices in the section below.
Your choices and consent
Where the law requires it, Plantgeh asks for your consent before non-essential cookies (such as advertising) are set. How that choice is collected depends on where you are: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland a Google-certified consent message is shown, which lists the advertising partners involved—including Google—and lets you accept, refuse, or manage the options in detail; in US states with applicable privacy laws a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information; everywhere else Plantgeh’s own cookie banner asks for your choice. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, use the “Privacy and cookie settings” link shown at the bottom of every page; in US states with applicable privacy laws, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link shown at the bottom of every page; everywhere else, use the “Privacy and cookie settings” link in the site footer or on this page. You can also control cookies through your browser, which lets you block or delete them—and clear the local storage described above in the same place—though some parts of the site may not work properly without certain cookies. To opt out of personalised advertising specifically, you can use Google’s Ads Settings, or industry tools such as optout.aboutads.info (in Europe, Your Online Choices).

Plantgeh may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Updated” date shown above reflects the latest version.
