About Pink Jasmine

Pink Jasmine is a fast-growing twining vine grown mainly for its strongly fragrant flowers and vigorous climbing habit. It is especially popular in pots and containers where it can be trained over a trellis, hoop, balcony rail, or other support.

The flowers are its main attraction. Pink-tinted buds gather in clusters and open into white star-shaped blooms that can scent an entire room, balcony, or entryway when the plant is in full flower.

Pink Jasmine also responds well to structure and pruning, which makes it easier to keep neat in a container. With bright light, a cool-to-moderate temperature pattern, and evenly moist soil, it becomes a reliable flowering vine for small spaces.

How to Care for Pink Jasmine

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water thoroughly when the top inch (2–3 cm) of the mix feels slightly dry, then let excess water drain away completely.

Pink Jasmine should not be allowed to dry out hard, because that can lead to wilting and bud drop. At the same time, standing water around the roots can cause yellow leaves and root problems. During active growth and flowering, Pink Jasmine usually needs more frequent watering than it does in cooler, lower-light periods.

Sunlight

Provide bright light with several hours of strong indirect light and, if possible, some gentle direct sun. Indoors, a bright east-facing window or a south- or west-facing window with some protection from harsh sun usually works well.

Outdoors in a pot, Pink Jasmine performs best in full sun to light partial shade. Too little light often causes stretched growth and fewer flowers, while very hot reflected heat can scorch the leaves.

Temperature

Pink Jasmine prefers cool to moderate temperatures, roughly 50–77°F (10–25°C). It often flowers best when it receives cooler nights and brighter days before blooming begins.

Pink Jasmine should be protected from frost and from sudden extremes such as cold drafts or direct heater blasts. If grown outdoors in a pot, it should be moved to a bright, cool, frost-free place before winter cold arrives.

Humidity

Aim for moderate humidity. Pink Jasmine usually tolerates normal indoor air, but very dry conditions, especially from heating, can cause buds to dry out or fail to open properly.

Grouping plants, using a pebble tray under the pot, or placing a small humidifier nearby can help. Pink Jasmine also benefits from good air movement, so it should not be kept in a tightly closed stagnant space.

Soil

Use a well-draining, slightly acidic, rich organic mix. A quality potting soil improved with compost plus perlite or coarse sand usually gives the right balance of drainage and moisture retention.

For Pink Jasmine, the mix should let water move through quickly without turning into a soggy mass, while still holding enough nutrients and moisture for steady growth. A pot with drainage holes is essential.

Training & Pruning

Give Pink Jasmine a trellis, hoop, wires, or railing and tie young stems gently as they grow. This helps keep the vine tidy and better displayed in a pot or container.

After the main flowering period, trim back long or tangled stems to maintain shape and encourage branching. Pink Jasmine usually flowers better the following season when weak, dead, or overcrowded growth is removed and the vine is kept under control.
